I believe that I’ve completed all of the Kickstarter requirements and am just about ready to submit it to them. There are ten different reward opportunities for supporters. You’ll be able to get the book and demo files in electronic form or even come to the AIX Studio for a curated listening session or sit in on a new recording session. I took many of your suggestions and revised the pitch video. It now starts with a short segment from the landing page and is slightly tighter than the previous version. Those of you with production experience will realize how much time it takes to produce a couple of minutes of video with a bunch of motion graphics. I’ve easily spent 30 hours on this. But I’m happy with the results. It tells the story of my little company, a little about myself, and what I’m trying to do. If you want to preview the Kickstarter page, I’m happy to provide a link if you send me a private email (mwaldrep@aixmediagroup.com). I don’t want to publish the link to the preview, but I would like to get some feedback.

I shoveled a whole bunch of stuff in the written portion and I’m thinking it might be too long. Just how much personal background do potential supporters want? The driving message of the whole campaign and the book needs to be that most of the stuff you read about high-end audio…and especially high-resolution audio/music…is of questionable worth. I want to explain to people that getting better sound is not about an expensive cable or audiophile tweak. It starts and ends with the basics…get great content and play it back through a system that won’t destroy its fidelity. So if you find yourself drifting from that message, I’ve written too much.

The campaign will run for 30 days starting next week (the exact date is determined by the people at Kickstarter…if you want to receive an email the moment it launches, please add you name to the email list. There are a number of limited EARLY BIRD SPECIALS that might be of interest.). My goal is to raise $25,000 to defray the costs of the printing of the books and the replication of the discs.

The key strategy is to engage with supporters early. With that in mind, please consider helping me by becoming an early supporter AND spread the word among your audio enthusiast friends. The book will be a great resource for those looking to learn about better sound and hear the realities of high-resolution audio/music.

The starting line is rapidly approaching…and then there’s running the race for 30 days. Thanks again for all of the help.

Mark Waldrep, aka Dr. AIX, has been producing and engineering music for over 40 years. He learned electronics as a teenager from his HAM radio father while learning to play the guitar. The book should be completed in the fall of 2013.

  1. I liked the short segment from the landing page. One small thing that bothered me was you were not looking at me, you were looking down and and obviously reading a script. I liked the pace of the visuals and I like that you were low key and not forced hype but a little more energy (or looking at me) would have been helpful.

    • Thanks Wayne…it proved very hard to do the video segment and keep my eyes looking in the camera.

  2. I live in Europe and I am blind, so a form of ebook, if produced correct, would be more interesting in my case. This would remove shipping costs and customs, and would give more Money to the project.

    • I’m planning an electronic version of the book. I’m not sure how ebooks work for the blind. Is a PDF version going to work?

    I’m really excited by your latest project and am looking forward to owning the book and BD material! I’m sure it’s easy, perhaps even expected, to have those “bumps in the road” that are so discouraging. You, however are the lone voice of sanity in a world filled with audio metaphors devoid of any useful meaning. It is my opinion that you’re hardly too long winded (unlike myself!) when it comes to audio, its production, and the whole recording industry, often calling BS on, well BS. I’ve learned more from you in the last few years than I have in all the years I’ve been interested in audio. I’ve also looked at your detractors opinions and viewpoints, most of whom have some kind of ulterior motives. You sir are the voice of reason, logic and science with lifelong experiences. The Walter Cronkite of all things audio and trustworthy. I’m not blowing smoke up your ass either. I often go a grueling 5 days without reading your posts so I can binge read them. You may not feel like you’re “winning” the fight, but you’re one of the very few who’s on the battlefield for us, the consumers who want real HRA, & don’t believe in witchcraft! Thanks for what you do, Mark.

    • Thanks Bruce. Some of the organizations that I belong to have proven to be more interested in commerce than building a new market based on honesty and openness. It’s crazy.
