Kickstarter Campaign Nears Close and A Road Trip

Until you try your own Kickstarter campaign, it’s impossible to express how crazy things can get during the different phases of a project. With only 18 hours to go, the number of backers continues to creep upwards. I want to thank my good friend Geoff Tully of the DVDList for his rousing call to arms last evening on the list…I have a lot of friends out there in DVD land. After all, AIX Media Group produced and released the very first DVD-Video discs in the United States back in the spring of 1997. And almost 20 years later, I just complete another one for the Cancer Blows people.

As I continue to get notices on additional backers (the number stands at 770), I’m starting to think that it’s possible to get to the second stretch goal by the deadline tomorrow morning. When Charlie wakes me up and demands a morning Frisbee session or ride around the neighborhood, the final hour will be upon us. We’ll just have to see…I’m pretty much done trying to spread the word. I promise, no more posts about the campaign…at least until I get close to the release of the book and disc.

Tomorrow is also the start of an international road trip that’s been in the works for several months. Thanks to the designer of the Liztic software music player, Michael Demmer, I’ve been invited by the University of Mainz to present a series of workshops on High-end music recording & mixing in 5.1 Surround Sound.

I’ve participated in lots of international events in the past (Bogota, Paris, Tokyo, London…) but this will be first one in Germany. I’m very pleased to be able to share some information AND hold a daylong recording seminar. We’ll actually be recording a small ensemble in their main music auditorium in high-resolution and preparing it in 5.1 surround. If any of you are near Zurich or Mainz, send me an email…it might be possible to meet briefly.

I’ve never taken time away from my own university commitments and even now I haven’t prepared all of the materials I need to give to my fellow faculty members that will be taking care of my classes. There are three midterms scheduled for Monday…that I haven’t started. It may be a long evening.
