I apologize in advance for talking so much about my first Kickstarter Campaign, which will launch tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. During the past month, I have spent well over 50-60 hours working on the pre-launch page, the pitch video (which got its final tweaks today), and the Kickstarter page. I want to thank everyone who was kind enough to review the materials and write with suggestions. If you take a look at the final KS page tomorrow, I think you’ll find that many, it not most, of your suggestions have been incorporated into the final version. I think the message is clearer, the call to action is better, and the focus improved. Who knew this would be so time consuming?<\/p>\n
Preparing the sites is just the first step in a long line of fun things that I’ll be doing over the next 30 days. The launch of the actual Kickstarter campaign signals the beginning of phase two…getting people to visit the site and complete a transaction…decide on a reward and actually commit to supporting the project. My hope is that the readers of this blog will appreciate the effort that I make everyday to write a blog post. There have been over 1000 posts so far and I have no plans to cease discussing the world of high-end audio.<\/p>\n
The time is now to step up and support the writing of the book and the production of the sound files. Some of you have written wondering why they should purchase the book and the demo disc, when I’m giving away the information for free everyday. The book will not be a collection of articles taken from the blog. Of course, many of the topics will be similar. But the plan is to write the book from the ground up. Each chapter and subsection will address in much greater detail the subject under discussion. I want to keep the text free of too many technical details…it should read as if we’re having a conversation about high-end audio. I want to make sure that everyone feels engaged by the topics, the demonstrations, and the logic behind getting great sound.<\/p>\n
Many of you will get the announcement email tomorrow. I would appreciate any mentions on the various forums. If you have audio enthusiast friends, please let them know about the book. I certainly hope that you will become a supporter of the campaign at whatever level you feel you can afford. And if you pitch in during the first 24 hours, the Kickstarter people might just identify “Music and Audio: A User Guide To Better Sound” as a trending campaign or one that they like. If a guy can fund over $40K worth of potato salad, I’d like to think that I could reach the modest goal of $25K for a 400-page book and extensive Blu-ray disc.<\/p>\n
